Consultation announced on copyright law reform proposals

The Government has put forward a list of proposals for 'modernising' copyright law. Comments are now invited.
Copyright law was reviewed in the Hargreaves Report and various recommendations were made. The Government has put forward a list of proposals for implementing some of the recommendations. It is for example proposed that personal copying from CD to MP3 will become legal, as also will parodies. Permissions for 'data mining' for research will be extended, and there will be procedures to assist use of 'orphan' (no known author) works. All of this is to 'deliver real value to the UK economy'. Following the collapse of manufacturing industry and banking, we are presumably now dependent on export of parody. More interesting is the statement that a feasibility study is being run on the proposed 'Digital Copyright Exchange'.
