Consultation on Design Law reform - but not yet
Following the recommendations of the Hargreaves Report, the UKIPO, on behalf of the Government, has reviewed Design Law, and they have announced that they are not yet ready to make proposals. It is all too complicated!
Design Law is a shambles - there are four different overlapping rights: two unregistered rights and two registered rights. No wonder everyone is confused. Clearly it all needs tidying, but the history of design law tends to show that any change just introduces more confusion. It all needs careful consideration - which hopefully is what we will get soon. It may even become associated with the proposed Digital Copyright Exchange, if that ever happens!
